Award of Benefits
When a client of Shaw Management Corporation is awarded a favorable decision, our accounting department will review the decision and make an estimate of the past-due benefits due to the client and their dependents. It can take several weeks to receive the first check from SSA. If a client qualifies for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Disability benefits, Social Security will contact the client to update the claim folder.
A member of our accounting department will re-calculate the client's benefits to insure he/she has been paid the correct amount. SSA will send the client a "Notice of Award" which will explain the payment of past-due benefits and inform the client when he/she can expect to receive his/her first monthly benefit check. Upon receipt of this document, our accounting department personnel will compare Social Security Administration's calculation of benefits with our own calculations to make sure our client's benefits were properly issued.
