SSDI - Social Security Disability Insurance
Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) pays benefits to you and certain members of your family if you have worked long enough and paid Social Security taxes. You must have worked at least 5 of the last 10 years before you became disabled. The benefit amount depends upon how much you earned and how much you paid into Social Security. You may obtain an estimate of your SSDI benefit by calling the Social Security Administration or by visiting their website.
Definition of Disability:
"The inability to engage in any substantial gainful activity by reason of any medically determinable physical or mental impairment which can be expected to result in death or which has lasted or can be expected to last for a continuous period of not less than 12 months."
